Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Milk Farmers’ Association has demanded that the milk price be raised to Rs 30 per liter from the present Rs 26.10 on an average per liter.
Federation president Rabi Behera, vice president Dusasan Mohapatra and secretary Narayan Dalua met the agriculture and animal husbandry minister Arun Sahoo and cooperation minister Ranendra Pratap Swain and submitted their demand papers. Pointing out that the private milk diaries like Pragati and Milk Moo in Odisha and Amul and Mothers’ Diary outside the State have hiked the milk procurement prices by Rs 3 per liter. However, OMFED pays Rs 21 to Rs 29 per liter with an average of Rs 26.10 per liter.
The Federation also demanded that milk and paneer be introduced in the mid-day meal (MDM) by the Women & Child Development department.
The two ministers reportedly assured that the government would consider the demand of the Federation sympathicially.
