Bhubaneswar: Finally land has been identified for the much-awaited Narla railway electric engine workshop in Kalahandi district and the Jeypore-Nabarangpur broad gauge line.

The Odisha government and the Indian Railways will jointly promote the two railway projects in the state, said a spokesperson of the East Coast Railways (ECoRly), here on Tuesday.

Stating that the ECoRly has identified plots and submitted documents to the state government through the land acquisition officers, the spokesperson said it is expected that the land acquisition would be smooth with the cooperation of the state government.

“Railways is keeping its mechanism ready to start work on the projects as soon as the land is available,”  said the spokesperson adding , these projects would help in fostering growth and development of nearby areas.

An agreement was signed in October last year between the Odisha government and the Indian Railways for the  broad gauge line between Jeypore and Nabarangpur. The state government has agreed to provide land for free and bear 50 per cent cost of the project.
