Bhubaneswar: The Central government is yet to come out with the Mahanandi Water Dispute Tribunal notification  even though the deadline for such notification coming to an end on November 18, 2017.

The timeline of one year for constitution of the Tribunal for adjudicating the Mahanadi water dispute under section 4(1) of the Inter-State River Water Dispute Act , 1956 is getting over on November 18, 2017 as the Odisha government has filed the statutory complaint on November 11, 2016.

Pointing out this, the Odisha chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, on Firday has written a remind letter to the prime minister Narendra Modi for the immediate notification of the Tribunal. Patnaik had written a letter to the prime minister on the matter on November 7, 2017.

“I wish to reiterate my request  for immediate issuance of a notification for constituting a tribunal for early initiation of the process of adjudication of the Mahanadi dispute”, Patnaik has written to the prime minister.

Odisha is protesting against construction of barrages across the Mahandi river in the up stream by the Chhattisgarh government pointing out that the river is getting adequate water in the downstream that flows into Odisha.
