Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is going to renovate and modernise the Annapurna Rangmancha (Theater)of Puri with an investment of Rs 20 lakh.
The state tourism and culture minister, Ashok Chandra Panda, said with the renovate and modernisation of the Annapurna Rangamancha , the heritage theater tradition of Puri would be revived. He said the culture department would provide the fund for the project.
Annapurna Rangamancha was established in Puri in 1936. Started with amateur artists, the theater later presented popular plays with professional actors and actresses. Arnnapurna Rangamancha had patronized and inspired many artists, playwrights and directors in the state. The theater troupe also staged plays in different parts of the state. The Rangamancha had kept alive the theater tradition of the state for quite sometime. The artists of Arnnapurna Rangamancha started Arnnapurna Theater B in Cuttack later.
The state revenue and disaster minister, Maheswar Mohanty, who is also the MLA of Puri, and the Puri collector had given a proposal for the renovation and modernisation of the Arnnapurna Rangamancha.
