Bhubaneswar: Hockey India League (HIL) CEO Elina Norman Thursday expressed satisfaction over the preparation made by the Odisha government for the World Cup Hockey(Men) 2018 to be held from November 28 to Devember 19 this year, here in Kalinga Stadium.

“The works for the coming World Cup Hockey is going as scheduled”, Norman said adding, “Tickets for the international sports event would be offered for sale within a month or two.”

The HIL CEO reposed faith on the Odisha government stating that the state had successfully  organised hockey tournaments and international sports past.

The Odisha chief secretary, who reviewed the progress of the preparatory works on Thursday, said arrangements are being made to accommodate about 5000 to 7000 foreign hockey lovers who are expected to come to Odisha to watch the League. He said that new astro turf would be spread on the hockey fields after completion of the required infrastructure works.

The sports and youth service secretary, Vishal Dev, said that arrangements are being made to display led screens at district headquarter for direct telecast of the matches.

World Cup(Men) Hockey is the highest and prestigious hockey tournament of International Hockey Federation (IHF) which is being held in every four years. Earlier, the tournaments had been held in India twice — at Mumbai (1982) and New Delhi(2010).

The 19-day Odisha Men Hockey World Cup 2018 will witness the players in action of world’s top 16 hockey teams.
