Bhubaneswar: Senior IAS officer Vinod Kumar has been convicted in the multi-crore ORHDC scam. Kumar along with others have been convicted by the special vigilance court, here on Tuesday.

The verdict on the Rs 800 crore housing scam was out after 18 years.

It was in 2000, the Odisha Rural Housing Development Corporation, had taken massive housing scheme in the super cyclone devasted districts of the state with a loan of Rs 800 crore from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO). However, the state vigilance police launched an investigation into the irregularities in the scheme.

Kumar, who is now Officers on Special Duty in science & technology department, was the managing director of ORHDC  when the financial irregularities cropped up.

Besides Vinod Kumar, five others Sanjay Mohanty, Purna Chandra Das, Pradip Kumar Rout, Chittaranjan Mallick and Ashish Kumar Nayak have been convicted in the case. The court pronounced 3 years jail term and a fine of Rs 25,000 for Sanjay Mohanty, who was present in the court today, while issuing non-bailable warrant against the five others who were not present in the court.
