Bhubaneswar: The newly set up Jharsuguda airport has become Veer Sunrendra Sai Airport after the name of great freedom fighter of western Odisha.
The union cabinet chaired by prime minister Narendra Modi Thursday endorsed the proposal of Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik and named the airport as ‘Veer Surendra Sai Airport’.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had earlier written to PM Modi urging the latter to name Jharsuguda Airport after freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai.
Naming the airport after Surendra Sai would be a befitting tribute to the legendary son of the soil, Patnaik had said.
The Odisha Legislative Assembly had also passed a resolution unanimously to name the newly-constructed Jharsuguda airport after noted freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai.
