Bhubaneswar: The estranged Congress legislator from Koraput, Krushna Chandra Sagaria, Tuesday resigned from the membership of the state assembly. Sagaria has submitted his papers to the Odisha Assembly Speaker Pradip Amat.
Interestingly, Sagaria, who claimed that he is still in Congress, said that his resignation from MLAship is due to his failure to provide justice to the Kundli gangrape victim who committed suicide.
“I feel I have failed to provide justice to the victim girl. If I am unable to give justice to a poor dalit girl using the constitutional post I was entrusted by the people, I have no moral rights of holding the position anymore,” said Sagaria.
Sagaria got elected from the Koraput assembly seat in 2014. He was the chief of state Congress SC/SC cell till recently. Following the elevation of Niranjan Patnaik as the president of Odisha Congress, Sagaria was replaced by former MP Bibhu Tarai. As such Sagaria was unhappy with growing importance of neighbouring Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati in the party after Niranjan becoming the chief.
