Bhubaneswar: Odisha has been provided with Rs 5993 crore for railways in the Union Budget 2019-20 as against Rs 5252 crore last year. In the interim budget the allocation was Rs 5490 crore.
The budget provided for survey of five new railway lines in Odisha. They are Raja Athagarh to Kaipadar Road avoiding Bhubaneswar and Khurda Road, 10 flyovers– Titlagarh, Singapur Road, Haridaspur, Koraput, Sambalpur, Machhapur, Jajpur Road, Sambalpur City, Sarla and Gopalpur Port, Chord Line from Talcher to Angul through colliery to avoid engine reversal at Talcher (14 kms), bypass from Titlagarh-Rahenbata to Sikir and flyover at Cuttack for goods train to avoid congestion at Cuttack.
Funds of Rs 180 has been allocated for passenger amenities. Among new projects announced in the budget for railways are a flyover at Baghuapal, grant for maintenance of coaches, two automatic coach washing plants for Bhubaneswar Coaching Depot, new wheel lathe for Mancheswar Workshop, Angul Electric Loco Shed and Bondamunda.
