New Delhi: Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan Friday urged the union tourism & culture minister Prahallad Singh Patel to include Odisha’s Puri Jaganath Temple and Konark Temple in the list of Iconic Tourism Sites of the country.
Pradhan, in a letter to the union tourism & culture minister, has stated that the Union Budget 2019-20 has proposed to develop 17 tourism sites in the country into a world class tourist destination and to serve as a model for other tourism sites.
“Keeping in mind the paramount historical, cultural and religious importance of Sun Temple in Konark and Lord Jaganath Temple in Puri, I request your personal intervention for inclusion of the two sites in the Iconic Tourist sites”, stated Pradhan.
Even though the Union Budget has identified 17 tourist sites in the country to include in the list of Iconic Tourist sites for development as a national project, the Konark Sun Temple and Puri Lord Jaganath Temple was missing in the list.
The Odisha chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, had shot off a letter to the Centre immediately after the Budget was presented, for consideration of famous tourist sites in Odisha like the Konark Temple, Jaganath Temple, Chilika Lake, Buddist Circuit, Bhitarkanika Sanctuary for inclusion in the list of Iconic Tourist sites.
