Bhubaneswar: The Central Silk Board has prepared road map for development of sericulture in Odisha.

Presiding over the 136th Central Silk Board meeting, here on Friday, the Board chairman KM Hanumantharayppa said vast land in Odisha is suitable for sericulture according to the data collected through Indian Remote Sensing Organisation and GIS survey. He hailed the steps taken by the Odisha government for the development of sericulture and enhancement of the livelihood of the silk famrers. He suggested that the state government should take up sericulture in forest land with a view to bring in integrated development to the tribal population.

The Board member secretary, Rajat Ranjan Onkhadia, Odisha handloom & textile secretary Subha Sharma, textile director Jyoti Prakash Dash, joint director, Silk Odisha, Surya Patnaik, and managing director Odisha Silk Federation Satya Ranjan Sahoo were present.

The Board members will visit the Silk Park at Bhagamuda under Harichandanpur block of Keonjhar district on Saturday before leaving the state for New Delhi.
