Bhubaneswar: Announcing the Food and Procurement Policy for KMS 2019-20, the Odisha government has set a target of procuring 41 lakh tones in terms of rice as against 44.42 lakh tonnes in 2018-19.
For 41 lakh tones of rice, the procurement of paddy would be 60 lakh tones out of which Kharif procurement will for 50 lakh tones and Rabi 10 lakh tones. The paddy procurement target for 2018-19 season was 65.49 lakh tonnes.
The State cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of chief minister Naveen Patnaik, here on Thursday, accorded its approval for the Food and Procurement Policy for Kharif Marketing Season(KMS) 2019-20.
Briefing the media persons about the cabinet decisions, the State chief secretary, Asit Tripathy said that the Kharif procurement will commence from November 2019 to March 2020, while the Rabi procurement will be from May to June 2020. He said this year the farmers need have to show their domestic consumption quantity while selling paddy at mandis.
Paddy will be procured at government of India declared MSP of Rs 1815 per quintal for common variety and Rs 1835 per quintal for Grade –A variety.
Odisha requires 24 lakh tones of rice for its PDS distribution. Surplus rice will be delivered to the Central pool through the Food Corporation of India.
