Bhubaneswar: Odisha, which has now 138 layer poultry farms, will have another 100 layer poultry farm in private sector in the coming years. This would enhance the egg production in the State.
Egg production in the State has increased to 68 lakh in 2018-19 from 52 lakh in 2014-15.
This was revealed at the meeting organised on the occasion of World Egg Day in the Veterinary College premises of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology( OUAT), here on Friday.
The agriculture and animal husbandry minister, Arun Sahu, said that the State government has put in place a Odisha Poultry Policy 2015 to promote farmers to take up poultry farming. He said that under the Policy subsidy upto 50% is given to the farmers. The minister said that 1036 farmers in the Fani cyclone affected district of Puri have been provided Rs 30,000 per farm for revival of the business
The State adviser to information and public relation department and convener of All Odisha Layer Farmers Association, Manas Ranjan Mangaraj, State animal resources and husbandry secretary R. Raghuprasad, director Ratnakar Rout, OUAT vice chancellor Pawan Kumar Agarwal, Odisha Poultry Farmers Federation president Jyotikanta Mohapatra, adviser Ashok Pradhan, secretary Pradyumna Parida, All Odisha Layer Farmers Assocaition BB Chouhan and secretary L. Saroj Patra were present.
