Bhubaneswar: The Odisha chief minister,Naveen Patnaik, congratulated Girish Chandra Murmu on being appointed as the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir.

Patnaik Saturday twitted, “Congratulate #Odisha born IAS officer Girish Chandra Murmu being appointed as first Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Best wishes for this new responsibility,”

The President of India Ramnath Kovind has appointed Murmu, a 1985-batch Gujarat cadre IAS officer, as the Lt. Governor of the newly formed Union Territory following the abrogation of Article 370.

Born in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, Murmu got into IAS service after completion of his MA in history from Utkal University.

The Odisha Assembly speaker S N Patro and food supplies minister R P Swain also send their best wishes to Murmu.

Patro has said, “My best wishes to Girish Chandra Murmu on being appointed as the Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Swain has said, “Congratulations to #Odisha born IAS officer Girish Chandra Murmu on being appointed as the Lt. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Best wishes to him for his new responsibility.”
