New Delhi: The union minister of state for home affairs, Nityanand Rai, Tuesday said that the Centre has sanctioned a total of Rs 4,679.09 crore assistance to Odisha to carry out relief and restoration work in Cyclone Fani-affected districts in 2019.

Rai, while replying to a question by BJP MP from Oldisha’s Sundergarh Jual Oram, told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the Centre has sanctioned an additional Rs 3,338.22 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for Cyclone Fani affected areas of the State. after the receipt of the recommendation of the Central team which visited the State for assessment of the damanges.

Rai said the Centre had granted Rs 340.875 crore to Odisha from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) fund on April 29, 2019 in advance. Then, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Odisha, an additional Rs 1,000 crore was given to the State, the union minister said.

The union minister of state home affairs G. Kishan Reddy, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, said the Centre has provided Rs 447.52 crore to Odisha on April 1, 2019 for relief and restoration works in areas affected due to Cyclone Bulbul. He informed the House that during the year 2019-20 the central share amounting to Rs 552 crore has already been released under SDRF to Odisha.
