Bhubaneswar: Over 40,000 bank employees working in public sector banks in Odisha will join the two-day nation wide strike on January 31 and February 1 in response to the call given by the United Forum of Bank Unions(UFBU). UFBU, an apex body of nine bank unions, is demanding wage revision settlement of 20% hike on pay slip components.
UFBU convener Sambit Mishra said, ” We are forced to go for strike as the the Indian Banks’ Association and the government is not fulfilling our demands”. He said that the government had offered 15% hike which is not acceptable to the bank employees.
Mishra threatened that if the government did not concede to the UFBU’s demand, then the bank employees would go for another round of strike sometime in March.
Over 10 lakh public sector bank employees are expected to join the two-day strike from Friday.
