New Delhi: The union cabinet has accorded its approval to the new education policy (NEP). It has also endorsed the union human resource development ministry’s proposal to change the name of the ministry to education ministry.
The NEP proposes a national regulatory authority to ensure quality education in the country.
“The union cabinet which met under the chairmanship of prime minister Narendra Modi has approved the NEP policy and renamed the HRD ministry as Education ministry”, said a HRD ministry officials soon after the cabinet meeting, here on Wednesday. .
The NEP draft was prepared by a panel led by former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief K Kasturirangan. After the panel submitted the draft to the union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank”, it was put in public domain seeking feedback from stakeholders.
