Webinar on “6 Successful Years of “Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana”

Bhubaneswar: Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) will eliminate poverty further, ensure transparency in transferring money to the beneficiaries account and check corruption to a large extent. This was stated by the eminent economist Prof.(Dr) Kumar Bar Das, while addressing the Webinar on “ 6 Successful Years of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana” organised by Regional Outreach Bureau(ROB) under Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Bhubaneswar Tuesday.

Dr. Das said that social development is the foundation of economic development and financial inclusion cannot be ensured by ignoring common people’s problem. PMJDY will bring out social development which will lead to economic development of the country. He also said that the present government under the leadership of prime minister Narendra Modi is concerned for the socio economic development of the people and during the six years JPMJDY has been able to reduce poverty.

Participating in the webinar Lead Bank Manager of Ganjam Ashok Kumar Panda said that PMJDY has provided banking facility to the unbanked. This will further strengthen the financial status of the county and bring out inclusive growth.

During the last six years more than 40 crores accounts have been opened in the country and in Ganjam district of Odisha more than 5.85 lakh accounts have been opened.

Panda added that the provision of Rupay Card, pension facility, Life insurance under PMJDY are being provided and door step banking service is also provided to the people to open PMJDY account

Among other guest speakers Srikanta Kumar Behera, SBi chief manager said that Jan Seva Kendras have been opened to help rural people to open Jandhan Khata. Over draft facility of Rs. 10,000 is also given to the PMJDY account holders to meet essential requirements. Behera also informed that Rs.2 lakh is given to Jan Dhan account holders under accidental death benefits. During the covid pandemic the financial assistance of Rs. 500 each month has contributed significantly in addressing the problem of the people said Behera.

Chairman of the Webinar Shailesh Kumar Malviya, additional director general of Odisha & Bihar region , said that PMJDY has ensured speedy transfer of money to beneficiaries account and it has checked corruption. Shri Malviya also said that PMJDY will be a stepping stone in ensuring financial security to the people.


Akhil Kumar Mishra, director, ROB said that human life is connected with livelihood and PMJDY has not only ensured financial assistance to the people but also fulfilled the hope, aspiration , desires of the people particularly of rural India.
