Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has fixed the paddy procurement target at 71 lakh tonnes (48 lakh tonnes in term of rice) for 2020-21 season. The procurement was 70.56 lakh tonnes (47.78 lakh tonnes rice) in 2019-20 season.
The Odisha cabinet which met here on Thursday under the chairmanship of chief minister Navven Patnaik approved the paddy procurement target for the year.
The chief secretary Asit Tripathy said that the procurement target for Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2020-21 is 54 lakh tonnes and Rabi Marketing Season is 17 lakh tonnes.
The cabinet has authorised the food supplies minister Ranendra Pratap Swain to revise the target if the need so arise.
Paddy procurement will commence from 1 st October, 2020 and conclude on 30th September, 2021. State government will procure paddy during Kharif and Rabi seasons separately within the KMS. Paddy will be procured from registered farmers by payment of Minimum Support Price (MSP).

Paddy will be procured as per MSP declared by Govt. of India at following rates:
Common variety: Rs.1868/- per quintal
Grade- A variety: Rs. 1888/- per quintal
