New Delhi: Tata Steel Mining Ltd. MD Pankaj K Satija has been unanimously elected as chairman of the Skill Council for Mining Sector (SCMS), during the 9th Annual General body meeting held at FIMI house, New Delhi on Tuesday.

Satija is an alumni of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and has been associated with Tata Steel where he has handled many roles in strategy, planning, operations and regulatory affairs. He has been a founder member in establishing SCMS and keep contributing to SCMS as a very active board member.

Expressing his gratitude to the board members for the opportunity given, Pankaj Satija has pledged to put all his efforts to make stakeholders more aware about skilling ecosystem and strengthen the activities undertaken by SCMS.

SCMS, promoted by Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) and supported by Ministry of Mines, Government of India, was established in December 2013 as the apex body to train and meet the requirement of skilled workforce for the mining industry in Public-Private Partnership mode. It was setup by National Skill Development Corporation under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). MSDE has authorized SCMS as a non-statutory agency for certifying the mining workforce in India and is regulated by the National Council of Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) under the aegis of MSDE.
