Bhubaneswar: Vidhya Das, founder of Odisha-based NGO Agragamee who has dedicated herself to the development of tribal education has been awarded the prestigious Dr. Welthy Fisher Award of India Literacy Board at Lucknow, this week.
Dr. Welthy Honsinger Fisher was the American founder of World Education and World Literacy Canada. She was an intellectual, activist, and feminist requested by her friend Gandhiji to begin Literacy House outside of Lucknow, India, at the age of 73. The Literacy House, as an institution fully devoted to promotion of Literacy, has been a reputed organisation of the country with many publication and Teaching Learning Materials. Dr. Fisher was awarded Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1964.
