Barbil: The 25th Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation week was celebrated at Thakurani iron ore mines of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), under the aegis of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Bhubaneswar. The inaugural ceremony of MEMC week began with the flag hoisting by Pramod Kumar Mishra, Mines Manager, Thakurani Mines, AM/NS India. All employees and workers took pledge to uphold sustainable mining practices.
To mark this occasion various environmental awareness programmes like slogan, poster, and essay writing competitions were organised. The students from nearby schools participated in the competitions. Inspection day was also conducted under the guidance of convenor Gyana Prakash Mohapatra, DGM Mines, OMC in the presence of Mahendra Mohanty, AGM Mines, Patabeda Iron Ore Mines, MGM, and other senior officials.
In the last day of the MEMC week, various stalls relating to Drone Survey Technology, Olympus Handheld XRF, and Modern Air Quality monitoring equipment were displayed to showcase the use of technological equipment in mining operations.
The CSR activities for community development and environmental management plan in mines area carried out by AM/NS India were also displayed at the stalls. The employees of Thakurani mines performed in a drama based on sustainable mining. Various cultural performances were also conducted by members of Khushi Foundation along with students. In the concluding function, Shri L.D. Babu, Mines Manager, Sagasahi Mines, AM/NS India and Shri Pramod Kumar Mishra, Mines Manager, Thakurani Mines, AM/NS India highlighted the need for sustainable mining for brighter future of the region.
