Bhubaneswar: Odisha minister for fisheries & ADR and MSME Gokulananda Mallick Tuesday said that he is happy that the State has produced 31 varieties of ornamental fish and 38 crore spawn during this fiscal.

Mallick said this while inaugurating the 4-day training programme for WSHDS on Biofloc and Pisci-culture Practices in GP Tanks at Kausalyaganga, here.

Addressing the women trainees Mallick said technology and optimum utilization of skill development will help increase fish production in the State. He added, the women are encouraged to adopt scientific pisci-culture practices to enhance fish production in the State in order to have improvement in socio-economicconditions of the women in the State.

The minister also suggested to take up additional avocations of animalresource development, horticulture and MSME for women.

Minister Mallick visited the Government Fish Seed Farm there and was impressed upon the comprehensive development plan as well as holisticdevelopment plan of the State’s mega hatchery for development of fish farming community. He was also briefed on the artificial breeding and spawn production practices within the hatchery complex. Expressing pleasure on being informed about record production of around 38 crore spawn during the current financial year and breeding of approximately 31 varieties of ornamental fishes there, minister suggested for augmentation of State FishermenCooperative Federation.

Debananda Bhanja, additional director of fisheries (Technical), Jagadish Chandra Panda, deputy director of fisheries (Training), S.S Singh deputy director FISHCOPFED and senior officers were present during the visit.
