Keonjhar: World Environment Day was observed at Dharanidhar University on Thursday. The theme for this year is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.
University’s OSD-cum-Vice Chancellor Professor Pratap Kumar Mohanty delivered a lecture on the problems caused by plastic mismanagement and ways of overcoming the same. Drawing upon his own experience as a marine scientist, Prof Mohanty vividly discussed the impact of plastic on our coastlines and the ecosystems around it. He sounded a note of caution in highlighting the pervasive presence of plastic around us.In trying to offer possible solutions, he emphasised the importance of 3R waste management practice, strict implementation of policy and the acute need for change of attitude towards environmental concerns.
Director IQAC, Shaswat Panda moderated the session and Dinesh Maharana (Assistant Professor, Teacher’s Education Department) offered the formal vote of thanks.
