Berhampur: Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has become instrumental in empowering consumers to harness solar energy from their own rooftops — and in some cases, eliminate electricity bills altogether.

Today, 126 consumers across the region have received zero electricity bills, as their energy needs are being met entirely through rooftop solar systems installed under the scheme. These installations are not only lightening their homes but also easing financial stress for thousands of families.TPSODL has played a catalytic role in bringing this change. From launching village-level campaigns to providing hands-on assistance with application and installation, TPSODL’s approach has ensured that the promise of solar energy reaches every corner of its service area.

So far, 513 rooftop solar plants have been installed across eight districts under TPSODL’s jurisdiction. Ganjam district leads the way with 331 installations, followed by Koraput (79), Rayagada (33), Boudh (30), Gajapati (24), Kandhamal (7) and Nabarangpur (6). This growing adoption of solar technology is a testament to both the accessibility of the scheme and the growing environmental consciousness among consumers.

To maximize the scheme’s impact, TPSODL has launched an aggressive awareness drive, covering urban areas, villages across Southern Odisha. These campaigns educate consumers on the benefits of solar, guide them through the application process, and connect them with reliable installation partners.

Speaking on the success of the initiative, Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, said: “This movement toward PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is not just about reducing bills—it’s about empowering people. We’re seeing the beginning of an energy shift where the consumer becomes the producer. At TPSODL, our goal is to make this transition smooth, supported, and sustainable. We’re proud of the impact so far and committed to scaling it further, ensuring every eligible household can benefit from clean, reliable solar power.”
