Bhubaneswar: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) observed Sustainability Week ending on June 07, 2025, with a series of impactful events through the week across its Odisha locations, with the theme of “Ending Plastic Pollution”.
At Paradeep, activities included housekeeping audits, a plastic waste collection drive, and quiz and poster competitions involving employees, associates, and contract workers. AM/NS India, in collaboration with the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) and Pardeep Municipality, conducted a large-scale sea beach cleaning drive at Pradeep Sea Beach, with participation from local vendors and employees.
Marking World Environment Day, an awareness rally was organised by Regional Office, SPCB, Paradeep alongside Taladanda canal, followed by a stakeholder meet near the AM/NS India Plant main gate. The event was graced by Basant Biswal, chairman, Paradeep Municipality, Abhishek Panda, executive officer, Puskar Chandra Behera, RO, SPCB, Suresha G, Executive Director, Odisha Asset, AM/NS India, USR Raju, Plant Head, Paradeep Pellet Plant, AM/NS India along with representative from different industrial houses including PPL, IOCL and JSW, who distributed fruit bearing saplings to the local communities. A mass plantation drive was also organised inside the plant, culminating in a closing ceremony attended by dignitaries, including F Puskar Chandra Behera, Suresha G and USR Raju, with awards distributed to winners of various competitions.
At AM/NS India’s Bhubaneswar office, employees contributed to sustainability by creating recycled notebooks for underserved children under the CSR Employee Volunteering Program.
In Dabuna Beneficiation Plant, a plantation drive was undertaken near the facility. Awareness programs were conducted in Katupali village and the tailoring centre in Dabuna followed by distribution of cotton bags and saplings. Employees participated in various competitions and a skit on “Plastic vs. Non-Plastic”. Jaiwardhan Paroha, Head, Beneficiation Plant, AM/NS India addressed the employees and associates and awarded winners of different competitions. At Sagasahi and Thakurani Mines, fruit-bearing saplings were planted in and around the mining locations, and awareness sessions were conducted for Mine Developers & Operators (MDO). Sharanappa Kambali, Chief of Mining, AM/NS India addressed the employees and partners at Sagasahi while Indrakant Saha, Mines Manager Thakurani mines, AM/NS India led the celebrations at Thakurani mines.
