Bhubaneswar: Journalism is under grave threat in the era of AI and disinformation. In this 21st century we need to go back to the rootes of the proffesion. With increasing role of social media and people participation in the communication process as well as with AI algo rethems, which allow billions of pieces of disinformation to be spread on the internet, the only role of traditional media is to become source of credible and reliable information to the public. Veryfying sources, doubts and triple checking facts and taking the neutral position while reporting is the only duty of proffesional journalist. In this regard the situation in India doesn’t differ from Europe. more over both are exposed new phynominon of ” foreign interference and manipulation of information “( FIMI), where autocratic regims try to manipulate public opinion in democracies. This concerns were raised and debated at an interactive seminar ” Disinformation & Misinformation in media : meeting the big challenge “in collaboration with indian journalist union and international relation of Polland.

CIR president, prof at Warsaw university, Dr. Malgorzara Bonikowski, gave a prospective of the European saying “Creditability of traditional media is key to fight disinformation undemocratic societies. “

Participants of the seminar which included editors, senior journalists shared their concerns and opinions to offer an Indian prospective.

OJU president Sashibhusan Praharaj said, “The Union organised this seminar for continueing the dialogue within the state and it’s media.

The Indian Journalist Union Secretary General, IFJ vice president Sabina Inderjit said that the phenomenon disinformation and misinformation, fake news, defact are global phenomenon and should be countered with good unethical journalism.
