Bhubaneswar : Eminent novelist Santanu Acharya called upo the Odia litterateurs to produce world class literature. He said the writing in Odia literature is no way different to their counterparts in Indian States and also in other countries.

“The Odia authors have to rise to the occasion, ” Acharya, a nonagenerain Odia novelist, exhorted the writers of the State.

He was speaking at the Second Annual Convocation of Professor Santanu Kumar Acharya Foundation Trust, here at Rabindra Mandap on Sunday. Former vice-chancellor Dr. Priyambada Hejmadi graced the occasion as chief guest. Trust president Iti Samant presided over the meeting while vice-president Gangadhar Mishra, secretary Prativa Panda, treasurer Prabir Kumar Das and joint secretary Banoj Tripathy, and Professor Acharya’s wife Nirupama Acharya, who herself is a prolific writer, graced the occasion.

Professor Natabar Satpathy was honoured with Santanu Acharya Literature Award, Professor Debakanta Mishra conferred with the Ranjit Rath Award for popular science writing. In the absence of Professor Mishra, his nephew Chitta Ranjan Mishra received the Award.

Releasing a book-let Subarna Setu, Professor Acharya said there is need for a bridge to connect the greenhorns in Odia literature with the veteran authors. He said the Foundation would work in that direction in coming years.

Anomara Kanya, a play adopted by theaspian Saileswar Nanda from Professor Acharya’s novel in the same title, was staged under the stewardship of well known directors, Preeti Mishra and Piyush Parida.
