Bhubaneshwar: As Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) has completed 125 years of service to the Nation, Bhubaneswar Regional office celebrated 125th Foundation Day on Wednesady.
The celebrations commenced this morning at the Bhubaneswar Regional Office with the planting of 25 saplings, followed by a workshop titled “Safe Miner, Strong Nation”. Seventy-five dignitaries from EZMA including various mining organizations in Odisha, namely M/s Odisha Mining Corporation Limited, M/s. FACOR, M/s. IMFA, M/s. TATA Steel, M/s. HINDALCO, M/s. RUNGTA, M/s. MGM, M/s. GRM, M/s. Jindal Steel, M/s. Jindal stainless Limited, M/s. JSW, M/s. AMNS participated in the events, conducted under the overall direction of A.K. Mishra and N. Balasubramaniam, Directors of Mines Safety, Bhubaneswar Region 1 and 2.
Recognizing that minerals and mining are the backbone of the nation’s development and industrial growth, Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) emphasizes the importance of safety, health, and welfare for individuals employed in this hazardous industry. Since its inception in 1902, Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) has worked diligently to ensure these standards are maintained across India.
Over the years, Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) has transformed internally, aligning with industrialization and technological advancements while keeping in track with small-scale mines, particularly in the organized sector. The efficacy of DGMS’s interventions is evident in the drastic reduction of fatality rates in the mining sector.
Since 1902, the fatality rate has decreased from 0.93 to 0.12 per thousand persons employed in coal mines, and from 0.67 to 0.22 in non-coal mines.On this milestone occasion, Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) reaffirms its commitment to serve the nation by ensuring the safety and well-being of our mines and miners, thereby promoting sustainable mining practices.
