Barbil (Odisha): ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) organised an awareness programme on the new Labour Code at its Ghorabhurani-Sagasahi iron ore mine. The initiative aimed at empowering mine workers through improved working conditions and enhanced social security. The session, conducted by officials from the Directorate-General of Mines Safety (DGMS), witnessed the active participation of more than 350 employees, associates and partners.

The team, led by N Balasubrahmanyam, Director of Mines Safety (DMS), Bhubaneswar Region 2, U Siva Sankar, Dy. Director of Mines Safety (DDMS), Bhubaneswar, Region 2 and K Maheswar Reddy, DMS (Electrical), South Eastern Zone (SEZ), Ranchi shed light on mining industry safety regulations and compliance with labour codes.

AM/NS India leadership including Amit Dubey, Sr. General Manager – Mines Operations, Satyakama Das; Mines Manager, Pramod Mishra, Head-Safety, Mines, Kamal Gupta, Welfare Officer, Mines were also present during the session.

N Balasubrahmanyam said, “New Labour Codes have created uniform standards that strengthen worker protections and simplify compliance in the mining sector and the sole purpose of organising such awareness session in mines is to empower and protect the right of mine workers, promoting ease of doing business in the mining industry”.

The team further emphasised the importance of the amended labour codes in fostering women empowerment and promoting gender diversity in the mining sector.The awareness programme reaffimed AM/NS India’s commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and progressive work environment at its mining operations.
