Cuttack : Odisha bagged 14 medals including eight gold and four silver on the inaugural day of the country’s first Indoor Rowing Championship, held here at Jawaharlal Nehru Indore Stadium on Friday.
Odisha’s Neha in Open Women Individuals, Pabitra in Open Elite Women Individuals, Dikhya in under 23 Women Elite, Manju Kumari and Minakhi Choudhry duo in under 23 Women Elite Pairing, and Priyanasu and Sanju Kumari duo in Mixed Pairing won gold medals. Similarly, in men category, Odisha’s Ayush Bal and Abhiraj duo in Men’s Pair, and under 17 Mixed Pair Tejbir and Sibani bagged golds in the competition.
Odisha Chief Minister’s Chief Advisor and former DGP Prakash Mishra inaugurated the Rowing Championship.
Cuttack city Mayor Sibash Chandra Singh, Odisha Olympic Association President Abhijit Pal, Odisha Rowing & Skilling Association President Vinod Dash, General Secretary Amarjyoti Singhdeo, Joint Secretary Sanu Rath, Ranjan Mohapatra, Dilip Sahoo, and Treasurer Haribandhu Mohanty were present.
On the opening day, 14 events were organized. The four-day Championship, organised jointly by Indian Rowing Federation and Odisha Association for Rowing & Skaling, would witness 350 men and 250 women competitors in action in 34 events.
