Jharsuguda : As the world observs International Women in Engineering Day, Vedanta Aluminium exhibits its women power at it’s smelter plant in Jharsuguda.

Its Jharsuguda operations, including deploying India’s first all-women-operated potline, India’s first all-women power unit, and an all-women locomotive team. It is within this ecosystem that its women engineers redefine what ‘Engineering Intelligence’, the global theme for this year’s celebration of International Women in Engineering Day, means in practice.

For Mamta Bhagat, Head of Manufacturing Excellence & Business Partner Management, it implies making complex processes work smoothly. Her work spans inventory optimization, audit compliance, governance improvements, and value creation through strong vendor partnerships.

“Over the years, I have been tasked with improving several critical processes that often work behind the scenes but have a major impact on our overall performance.”

As Head of CBM & Calibration and Deputy Head of Asset Optimization, Suman Pritidarshini channels complex data and technology into better decision-making. With extensive experience in maintenance, reliability engineering, operations, and project management, she has played a key role in improving how large critical assets aremanaged.

“One of my most important contributions has been the implementation of real-time vibration monitoring across more than 350 critical assets, enabling a shift from reactive maintenance to predictive, data-driven decision-making.”

Snigdharoopa Biswal, Head of Business Excellence, focuses on unlocking possibilities through continuous improvement. Her work across Total Quality Management, Lean, Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping, and Quality Circles has helped convert quality frameworks into practical plant-level improvements, strengthening both performance and workplace culture.

C Chandru, CEO – Vedanta Aluminium, Jharsuguda said: “On International Women in Engineering Day, we celebrate the women professionals who are shaping the future of manufacturing with skill, resilience and fresh thinking. We are committed to building an environment where women engineers can lead, innovate and thrive across our operations, advancing India’s industrial growth in a meaningful way.”
