Bhubaneswar: The Odisha chief secretary, Asit Tripathy, inaugurated the ‘Special Handloom Expo’ of Odisha Handloom products, here on Tuesday.
After inaugurating the Expo, Tripathy went round the stalls put up by Utkalika, Boyanika, Amlan, Sambalpuri Bastralaya & Weaver Corporation Societies from various parts of the State. While visiting the stalls he discussed with the weavers about modernization of weaving techniques and tools, availability of promotional support from Government and marketing of their products.
The chief secretary told media persons , “Fetching remunerative price to the weavers and modernization of Handloom Sector is the only priority agenda of the government. There are around 30 to 35 different varieties of handloom products in Odisha. These products are quite popular both inside and outside the country. Government is taking steps to connect the weavers with the trading companies both at the national and international level”.
Available data shows, around 34 stalls have been put in the Expo. The Expo will continue up to 10th September 2019.
Handloom Textiles and Handicraft secretary Subha Sharma, Boyanika president Shesa Kumar Meher along with Senior officers of the Department were present on the occasion.
