Khopoli(Maharastra) : Tata Steel BSL has launched a campaign to impart self-defence training to the girls of local villages near its plant located at Sarvoli under Raigad district of Maharastra in association with the district administration.
Aimed at empowering girl students, the first training session was oragnised at Sarnobat Netaji PalkarSabhagruhTehshildar office Khalapur on Tuesday to mark the 160th birth anniversary of Sir Dorabji Tata, the first chairman of Tata Steel. Around 200 adolescent girls of Swami Vivekanand High School, Khalapur participated in it.
Tata Steel BSL executive plant head Kapil Modi and Khalapur tehsildar Iresh Chappalwar formally launched the campaign.
Mumbai based NGO Swayamsidha, involved in such training for long, has been roped in by the steel major for support.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Modi said, after initiating a series of measures for local schools, this training session has been organised to cover around 2000 girls from nearby schools in coming few months, he added.
