Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s urban sold waste generation is less than the national average. This has been revealed at a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of chief secretary Asit Tripathy, here on Thursday.
Briefing the meeting, the State principal secretary Housing & Urban Development, G Mathevathan, said that the sold waste generated per household in Odisha’ s urban areas is 300 gram per day and it is less than the national average. He said that 2014 wards in 114 urban local bodies (ULBs) in the State generate 2575 tonnes of solid waste per day in the State.
The chief secretary directed that the Women SHGs be engaged in management of the sold wastes in urban areas. There are about 30,000 Women SHGs in Odisha’s urban centres.
Director Urban Local Bodies Administrations Sangramjit Nayak said that in urban centres 1200 Swachha Sathis have been engaged in sold waste management. Each Swachha Sathi will be in charge of 600 household in the towns and cities.
Forest and environment principal secertary Mona Sharma, revenue and disaster management principal secretary Nikunja Dhal , panchyati raj and drinking water principal secretary Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh were present in the meeting.
