Kolkata: Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port, Kolkata, authorities have geared up to face the cyclone Yaas which is expected to make landfall on Wednesday afternoon between Odisha’s Paradip and West Bengal’s Sagar Island.
Under the leadership of the Port chairman Vinit Kumar, the authorities have started taking all precautionary steps to save the life and property of various stake holders of the port, said a Port press release.
To keep the ship’s anchored and the harbour safe, all the vessels from the anchroges have been moved out. All the port vessels have been taken inside the impounded docks and Ships inside impounded docks have been secured with additional mooring ropes. There will be no movement of ship from Tuesday till the cyclone subsides. Cargo handling operations have been suspended.
The port authorities have opened a 24-hour control room to monitor the activities.
