Bhubaneswar : Odisha has been the highest producer of steel in the country. The steel plants in the State have produced 26 million tonnes of steel in 2023-24 financial year. The growth registered was 11% over the previous year. Odisha is followed by Jharkhand with 20 million tonnes and Chhattisgarh with 18 million tonnes with each registering a growth of 10% during the fiscal ended on 31st March 2024.
Big Mint, market watching organisation has reported that steel production in the country has rose to 143 million tonnes, registering a national growth rate of 13%.
Odisha with its rich resources like iron ore, coal and water and three running deep water sea ports has become a favourite destination for investmet in steel making. Tata Steel, Jindal Steel & Power, JSW and Central sector Steel Authority of India have their integrated steel plants in the State. Arcellor Mittal/ Nippon Steel India and JSW are planning two port based mega green field steel plants in Odisha.
