Bhubaneswar: Prime minister,Narendra Modi, Friday laid foundation stone of a state-of-the-art hygienic wholesale fish market at Bahrda (Basta) in Balasore district in the virtual mode.
Attending a function organised at Bahrda, Odisha minister, for fisheries and ARD, MSME, Gokulananda Mallik, said that the wholesale fish market will facilitate trading of marine, brackish and inland fish in a single window to promote export potential. Describing it a unique flagship project in the State Mallik said that Odisha is the 4th largest fish producing State having 7.07 Lakh Ha inland, 4.81 Lakh brackish water areas. The project with an estimated cost of 78.25 Cr. will be completed within June 2026, he said.
The fish market under centrally sponsored scheme of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) will have facilities of laboratory, vendor shops, rest and packing room, loading and unloading bay, blast room, chiller plant, security barrack, parking, solar and power system, fire safety arrangement etc. The market stretching 20 acres of land will of 2500 MT capacity.
Balasore MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi, MLA Balasore Manas Kumar Dutta, Basta MLA Subasini Jena, Balasore collector Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas, fisheries director Md. Saddique Alam were also present in the programme.
Prime minister inaugurated and laid foundation of various Fisheries projects worth Rs.1200.00 crore under PMMSY & FIDF and launching of Rollout of Vessel Communication & Support System worth Rs.364.00 crore day at Palghar, Maharastra. Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Minister of Panchayati Raj and Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Sarbananda Sonowal Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel Union Minister of State Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Panchayati Raj, George Kurian, Union Minister of State Minority Affairs and Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shantanu Thakur, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways were present in the programme.
