Bhubaneswar: Odisha has earned Rs. 16,683.35 crore revenue in April -July period of 2024-25 fiscal from mines which is 16.80% higher than revenue earned during the same period last fiscal. In 2023-24, the revenue from mines was Rs 46,396.27 crore. The government has set a target of Rs 50,000 crore revenue from mines in the current fiscal would be Rs 50,000 crore.
This has been said by Odisha steel & mines minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena on Tuesday while replying to demand discussion on his department in the State Assembly.
The minister said following the Saha Commission Report and Supreme Court direction 18,169.14 crore penalty has been imposed on erring mining lease holders for MP/CTO violation and out of that Rs 16,104 crore has been collected. He said out of Rs 1890.83 crore penalty imposed on mine owners for MP/CTO violation Rs1101.69 crore has been collected.
The minister said Odisha has country’s 96% of chromite, 92% nickle, 51% bauxite, 43% manganese, 33% iron ore, and 24% coal. According to him, 205 major mineral mines out of 385 are in operations. He said steps are being taken to make the 180 mines operative. Iron ore, manganese, bauxite, chromite are being raised from 102 mines, coal from 33, gems stones from 7, decorative stones from 56 and other specified minor minerals raised from 7 mines.
Minister Jena said 30 major mineral blocks have been lined up for auction in 2024-25. Out of this the process of auction has been started in case of 10 mines.
He said in 2023-24, a total of 435.199 million tonnes (mt) minerals were produced and 430.225 mt despatched. From 33 operational coal mines 207.90 mt were raised and 212.98 mt despatched in FY 24. In April -July period of FY 25, a total of 157.817 mt minerals raised and 153.895 mt despatched.
The minister said Rs 1486.55 crore revenue collected from minor minerals in FY 24. For FY 25, the revenue target is Rs 2000 crore.
Jena said 53 steel plants including 35 MoU companies have their manufacturing facilities in the State. The total capacity of these plants is 35.71 mtpa.
