Bhubaneswar: International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar (IIT: Bhubaneswar) hosted the Smart India Internal Hackathon 2025 bringing together over 40 teams comprising 200 students who presented innovative technology-driven solutions across diverse domains.

Prof Ashish Ghosh, Director, IlIT-Bhubaneswar, emphasised that there is an urgent need inspire our students to think beyond textbooks and come up with practical solutions for societal challenges. The Smart India Hackathon helps in identifying the brightest ideas from our campus and also prepares the students to compete at the national level.

The most promising teams from this internal round will advance to represent IlT Bhubaneswar at the National-Level Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025–India’s flagship innovation competition.

The event witnessed remarkable ideas aimed at addressing real-world challenges in areas such as Disaster Management, Smart Education, Agriculture, Food Technology & Rural Development, Heritage & Culture, Med-Tech/ Biotech/Health-Tech, and Surveillance.

The hackathon jury, comprising 15-20 expert jury members from IIT Bhubaneswar, the WiE Affinity Group IEEE Bhubaneswar Subsection, KIIT University and other premier technical in stitutes, evaluated the participating teams on three major criteria: Clarity of Problem Statement, Technical Soundness, and Technical Feasibility.

The Smart India Hackathon, organized annually by the Government of India, is one of the world’s largest open innovation platforms. It fosters out-of-the-box thinking among young minds, particularly engineering students, while promoting collaboration with industry experts, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
