Bhubaneswar : The University of Western Australia (UWA), the first Group of Eight (Go8) institution to establish campuses in India has strengthened its commitment to creating intergenerational change through global opportunity with a series of transformative engagements in Bhubaneswar.
The visit is deeply connected to UWA Vice-Chancellor Professor Amit Chakma’s own international journey to the value international education plays in transforming lives.
“Curiosity and resilience shaped my path,” Professor Chakma said. “Aspiration is the first step; perseverance turns it into achievement. Global learning opportunities have changed my life, and I want more young people to have that opportunity.”
Centurion Scholarships and Academic Pathways: UWA during this visit has announced exclusive postgraduate scholarships for high-performing graduates of the Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM). These scholarships provide pathways to UWA’s global campuses in Perth and India, supporting skill development and enabling students to participate in transformative international learning experiences.
“Centurion University is extremely grateful for the generosity of UWA to grant two scholarships for PHD and Post Graduate programs and that of intrinsic value to the university. This also bolsters the relationship between India and Australia, particularly as Orissa is known for mining, sports and maritime focus. The partnership will create pathways for multiple opportunities to enhance the bilateral relations between both countries leading to country to country collaboration in many ways.
Centurion University being in a remote and regional area, the scholarship creates a lot of excitement amongst the faculty and staff who are looking to apply for the scholarship. We are so grateful to the Vice Chancellor and the team at UWA for considering this scholarship.” said Dr Mukti Mishra, President of Centurion University.
Tri-Institutional Partnership with IIT/ISM Dhanbad and IIM Mumbai: Reinforcing its national engagement, UWA formalised a landmark partnership with IIT/ISM Dhanbad and IIM Mumbai to strengthen talent pipelines in mining, critical minerals, automation and sustainability—priority areas for both India and Australia. The collaboration enhances global mobility, industry integration and research capability in sectors central to the energy transition.
Bhubaneswar to Host UWA’s Sports Immersion Program: UWA confirmed Bhubaneswar as a host city for its Sports Immersion Program, offering students hands-on exposure to India’s elite sports ecosystem through high-performance training, sports science workshops and engagement with leading sporting organisations.
