Kalinganagar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Wednesday inaugurated and laid the foundation for a suite of advanced manufacturing facilities and strategic expansion projects at Tata Steel Kalinganagar (TSK) and Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) in the Jajpur district of Odisha.

Underpinned by a cumulative investment of ₹9,067 crore, these projects are set to accelerate industrial growth in the region, and create 10,500 direct and indirect employment opportunities, reaffirming the Company’s commitment to economic empowerment, technological excellence, and sustainable manufacturing.

Odisha Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, Minister, Cooperation, Handlooms, Textiles & Handicraft, Pradeep Bal Samanta, MP Rabindra Behera, MLAs Himanshu Sekhar Sahoo, Akash Dasnayak and Amar Kumar Nayak, Chief Secretary Ms. Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary Industries Hemant Sharma, Jajpur District Collector Ambar Kumar Kar, and Vice President – Engineering & Projects, Tata Steel Akshya Khullar were present on the occasion.

The newly unveiled projects at TSK comprise two Continuous Galvanising Lines with a combined capacity of 1 MTPA; Continuous Annealing Line with a capacity of 0.9 MTPA; and a 7 MTPA Slurry Pipeline Project (Phase 1); and Linde India Limited’s Air Separation Unit (ASU).

The NINL expansion project was kicked off, focusing on major modernisation and capability upgrades. The project incorporates key sustainability-focused upgrades, including a Blast Furnace Fume Extraction System and Zero Effluent Discharge measures, reinforcing NINL’s commitment to environmentally responsible steelmaking.

The Phase 1 of the Slurry Pipeline Project would significantly strengthen TSK’s operational ecosystem. With a capacity of 7 MTPA, the underground pipeline will safely and efficiently transport iron ore fines from the Company’s mine in Kalamang to the Kalinganagar plant, ensuring continuous raw material supply.

Linde India Limited’s Air Separation Unit (ASU) for Tata Steel Kalinganagar with a capacity of 2×1800 tonnes per day (TPD) was also inaugurated. Operating via cryogenic distillation, the facility delivers a daily capacity of 3,600 tonnes of oxygen, 1,940 tonnes of nitrogen, and 120 tonnes of argon. It may be noted here that during emergency situations, oxygen from ASU can also be used for medical purposes. The ASU remains a vital backbone for the steel plant’s continuous, safe, and efficient operations.
