Bhubaneswar: The Rourkela Steel Plant(RSP) has recently added pipes with a newer dimension to its product basket by rolling out 5.0 mm thikness pipes with 18 inche outer diametre( OD).
“With the objective of expanding its product profile and enhancing its competitive advantage ERW Pipe Plant (ERWPP) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has been constantly producing pipes of different thicknesses and diameters”, said a Plant spokesperson.
With this ERWPP has achieved a Diameter to Thickness (D/T) ratio of 91.44 which is a remarkable feat. In all 3 Km length pipes with these specifications were made and supplied to various customers.
It may be noted that earlier ERWPP had been successful in rolling pipes with thickness of 4.3 mm in 8 5/8 inch Outer Diameter in the month of May 2017 and pipes of 4.5 mm wall thickness and 12 ¾” OD in June 2017.
It is noteworthy that Rourkela Steel Plant, which is the only pipe making Unit of SAIL, can produce Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) Pipes up to API-5L-X70 grade.
