Bhubaneswar: Chief minister, ministers, speaker, deputy speaker and  legislators salary and allowances have been increased by 66% .

The Odisha cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, here on Wednesday, accorded its approval to a proposal hiking the monthly salary and allowances of legislators and ministers. The cabinet approved the recommendations made by a sub committee headed by finance minister Sashi Bhushan Behera.

The MLAs in the state would now get Rs 1 lakh per month towards salary and allowance as against their present emolument Rs 60,000.

The chief minister will get Rs 98,000 per month towards salary and allowances . The present monthly emoluments including allowances is Rs 59,000.

The speaker’s revised emoluments including allowances have been fixed at Rs 97,500 as against Rs 58,500 earlier. Similarly, the deputy speaker’s revised emoluments including allowances have been fixed at Rs 95,000 as against   Rs 57,000 earlier.

The cabinet ministers salary and allowances have been fixed at Rs 97,000 as against Rs 58,000 earlier, while that of ministers of state have been fixed at Rs 95,000 as against Rs 57,000 earlier.

The Leader of the Opposition salary and allowances have been fixed at Rs 97,000 as against Rs 58,000 earlier.

The Government chief whip’s revised emoluments including allowances have been fixed at Rs 97,000 as against Rs 58,000 earlier and that of the deputy government chief whip have be fixed at Rs 93,000 as against Rs 56,000 earlier.

 

The MLAs, cutting across party line, had met the chief minister at his office on Wednesday morning and had pressed for revision of their salary and allowances besides the MLA Local Area Development (MLALAD) fund.
