Bhubaneswar: The Odisha chief secretary Thursday said that the state is going to procure 53 lakh tonnes of paddy this year. He said 44 lakh tonnes paddy will be procured during Kharif and 9 lakh tonnes paddy during Rabi season.

“We have planned to procure a total 53 lakh tonnes of paddy this year”, said Padhi adding that 10 lakhs farmers have already been registered under the government’s e-registration system. He, however, assured that the state government may go for additional procurement of paddy if need be.

The state relief commissioner, Bishnu Pada Sethi, said that the payments towards the paddy procurement would be directly transferred to the accounts of the farmers through the cooperative banks.
