Bhubaneswar: Union minister for drinking water and sanitation S S Ahluwalia Friday said that all the people will have access to safe piped drinking water by 2030.
“People across the country would get safe piped drinking water by 2030,” said the minister who was on a visit to the state to review the progress of drinking water schemes and various sanitation programmes being implemented in the state.
Ahluwalia said, “I have been visiting the states which are faced with drinking water and sanitation problems. My visit to Odisha aims at expediting implementation of schemes and programmes.”
The union minister reveiwed the programmes at a meeting with the state government officials after visiting a village under Angargadia gram panchayat near here.
Odisha government informed the union minister that the state has a target to provide piped water to each gram panchayat by 2019.
With regard to sanitation programmes, the state government appraised the visiting minister that the state has achieved the target of 45 per cent in providing toilets to households with no such facility. Till 2014, only 12 per cent of the households had toilets, stated the state government.
