Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government’s culture department has instituted an Odia chair, named after Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanj, in Benaras Hindu University with a corpus fund of Rs 5 crore.
An MoU was signed in BHU campus on Wednesday between the Odisha government culture department and the BHU. Odisha culture secretary Manoranjan Panigrahy and BHU registrar Dr. Neeraj Tripathy signed the MoU.
The chair will facilitate studies, research and furtherance of Odia language, literature, its cultural historiography and architectural potential among non-odia and interested students and scholars, said Panigrahy.
Among others Prof. T.M. Mohapatra, Prof. B.K. Panda, Prof. Pradosh Mishra, Prof. K.Ghadei. Prof.Gopabandhu Mishra and Dr. Amiya Samal along with representatives of Benaras Utkal Samaj were present in the programme.
In February, 2017 state government had instituted a chair in Jawaharlal University, Delhi for propagation of Odia language and literature named after Adikabi Sarala Das with a corpus fund of Rs 5 crore.
