Bhubaneswar:The Odisha chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, Thursday urged the prime minister to intervene in the matter of Polavaram Project and stop construction work of the dam till the pending issues were settled in the supreme court.
Patnaik, in a letter to the PM , requested for directions to cancel the July 10 order of the union ministry of environment, forest and climate change.
The union ministry has allowed the construction of the project by keeping in abeyance its stop work order from July 3,2018 to July 2, 2019.
The chief minister has pointed out that the ministry came out with the order even if thee is no change in legal and factual position of the project. He also pointed out that the construction of embankments requires diversion of forest land and will adversely impact the tribal villages and the tribal population in the Malkangiri district in Odisha.
