Bhubaneswar: The chief minister, Naveen Patnaik, Thursday inaugurated the Rukura Irrigation Project at Bonai in Sundergarh district. The Rs 300 crore project would create irrigation facilities for 5800 hectares of land in the district.
Addressing on this occasion, Patnaik said that his party’s promise during the 2014 elections to cover additional 10 lakh hectares of land under irrgation would be fulfilled by March 2019. Stating that his government is giving much importance to irrigation, he said that the budget provision for the water resources department has increased to Rs 10,200 crore from Rs 850 crore in 2000. The state would plans to spend Rs 75,000 crore in the next five years in irrigation sector.
