Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government Saturday rolled out a new welfare programme Nirman Kusum for the construction workers of the state.
Launching the scheme the chief minister Naveen Patnaik said that the state would provide financial assistance for the ITI and polytechnic education of workers’ children. The government has already deposited Rs 1.09 crore in the bank accounts of beneficiaries of the programme, he added.
While an ITI student will receive a financial assistance of Rs 23,600, a diploma student will get Rs 26,300 per annum. A total of 1,878 students will be benefitted under the programme.
Besides, the government has decided to increase the financial assistance by 20 per cent for girl students. Female students from standard sixth to post graduation level are being provided financial assistance, the CM informed.
Meanwhile, death benefits for construction workers have been doubled by the state government. Kin of the deceased construction workers, who were getting Rs 1 lakh as compensation, will now get Rs 2 lakh. Similarly, the accidental benefit has been doubled from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.
